Luis Suarez hits a hat-trick in the absence of Neymar & Messi
Luis Suarez scored the first hat-trick in Club World Cup history to book Barcelona a final spot with River Plate on Sunday. What’s more he did it without game makers Lionel Messi and Neymar.
In the semi-final against Guangzhou Evergrande a team from the Chinese Super League, Lionel Messi wasn’t present due to being diagnosed with renal colic. Neymar didn’t player either but was benched due to a groin problem, so it was up to the Suarez, Munir El Haddadi and Sergi Roberto to score the goals. Fortunately for Barcelona the Suarez was in blistering form and scored all three goals in the game.
This was the twentieth hat-trick for the Uruguayan in his professional career and his last goal was number 22 in 23 games this season. His goal tally sees him as one of the most prolific strikers in the world today and is already closing in on his tally he got last season, but with over half of the season left to play. If he continues at his current rate, he would score over 50 goals by the season’s end.
Suarez’s first goal came in the 38th minute when Ivan Rakitić fired at the goal but the rebound off the keeper landed near Suarez who promptly hit the ball home. Early in the second half, an Andrés Iniesta through ball found Suarez who brought the ball down and slotted it into the goal. Then Munir El Haddadi was penalized in the penalty area, Suárez converted it with a right foot shot toward the bottom left corner of the goal.
Andrés Iniesta was also in blistering form by providing a number of perfect through balls and passes for the forwards to gorge on.
Barcelona are now one step closer to five titles. They have already won Champions League, La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Uefa Super Cup.
