Race for the Champions League record
The highest goal scorer in Champions League history is Raul on 71 goals which he scored between 1995 and 2012. However, two players are nipping at his heals with the likelihood of one of them stealing the record in their next two games. Well it is not hard to guess who these two players are. First we have Christiano Ronaldo currently on 70 goals and Lionel Messi on 69.
While Ronaldo has 2 extra years over Messi in Champions League participation, Ronaldo is however the highest European goal scorer this season for club and country. In the Champions League he is hovering around 2 goals per game which if he keeps this form for the rest of the season, (an almost impossible task), he would net around 80 goals which would blitz Messi’s Champions League record of 50 goals set in 2011-12.
So who will be the first to take the Champions League crown. Regardless, it is possible that we may witness the record scorer changing hands multiple times this season between Ronaldo and Messi.
