Ronaldo scores twice and sets up two
Cristiano Ronaldo scored and assisted twice in today’s Champions League match at Arena Lviv. Gareth Bale was also impressive, setting up both Ronaldo’s goals and providing other goal scoring opportunities.
Real Madrid beat Shakt Donsk 4-3 sealing top spot in Group A. The result guarantees Real goes through to the final 16. This is a good response after Real were left reeling in their El Clasico loss to Barcelona. However some of the shine came off their win when Ukrainians staged a late comeback, but Real held on for the win.
There was a lone goal in the first half when a cross ball from Gareth Bale found Ronaldo who tapped home. After the break, Ronaldo the scorer became the provider for Luka Modric who struck into the centre of the goal. Two minutes later Ronaldo passed to Daniel Carvajal who beat a defender and then lobbed the ball over another and pass the keeper. Later Gareth Bale produced one of his sensational runs down the left wing to centre in for Ronaldo, but his shot struck the keeper, however it rebounded for a second take which ended with a goal. This was looking like an old fashioned thrashing, but Shakt Donsk made a late comeback with three goals, but not enough to win the game as Real held on for a 4-3 win.
While both Ronaldo and Bale had a great game, Ronaldo did miss a lot of great opportunities to score and coach Rafael Benítez will have some concern about his team letting in three late goals.
