Suarez hat-trick crowns Barcelona La Liga champions
Barcelona secured the title by one point ahead of rivals Real Madrid with a 3-0 win against Granada. Luis Suarez scored all three goals in the match to crown The Catalans La Liga champions. He has also been in top form this season and broke a number of important records.
It would be fair to say that this has been a great year for Luis Suarez. The Barcelona striker has been in sensational form all season and was rewarded with scoring the winning goals to secure Barcelona the La Liga title. But he also broke a couple of important records this season. His 40 goal haul in La Liga sees him clinch the Pichichi award which is given to the top scorer in La Liga every season. He had 4 more goals than second-placed Ronaldo and he becomes the first player in seven years to clinch that award besides Messi or Ronaldo.
Tem-mates Messi and Neymar came in third and fourth respectively on goals so was Suarez the lucky recipient of assists from both Messi and Neymar? The answer is yes, but the Uruguayan was also this seasons leading assister incase you were thinking it was all charity. In fact he is the first person in history to top both scoring and assist charts since assist records started back in 2004. Surely if Suarez continues his form for the rest of the year he will be a sure bet as a Ballon d’Or finalist.
This is Suarez’s second La Liga title, but both Andres Iniesta and Lionmel Messi have been involved in eight title wins each. Barcelona’s Spanish title win was their 24th while Real Madrid have a total of 32 titles in their history.
